SA Government launches new facility at Techport Australia
The Government of South Australia has unveiled a new Common User Facility last month at the $300 million Techport Australia naval hub in Osborne.
Standing as the centrepiece of the Techport Australia site, the Common User Facility was developed using state-owned infrastructure and spans 8 hectares to include a wharf, runway, dry berth, transfer system and the largest shiplift in the Southern Hemisphere.
The facility will play a key role in assisting ASC to build Air Warfare Destroyers in the nearby shipbuilding facility by providing flexible access for partnering companies, suppliers and contractors. (Source: Techport Australia Launch Program).

SA’s mining industry ready to boom
South Australia’s mining industry is on track to become a major contributor to the State’s economy with several developments in the pipeline for 2010.
Up to 11 mines will be in operation across the State this year, with another 5 expected to receive approval or commence work in the next 12 months. Major mining companies such as Phoenix Copper are also planning expansions of their current sites, while Department of Primary Industry and Resources SA estimates an outstanding $1.3 trillion worth of minerals are still to be discovered in the Gawler Craton.
Experts say South Australia is poised to become a national and international leader in the mining industry, claiming the State’s key advantage is its access to a multitude of minerals which in turn extends exploration and export numbers. (Source: SACOME Mines and Energy Journal)
